WORSHIP
The soul of a church is evident in its worship.
SUNDAYS
Sunday School, all ages: 10 a.m.
Sunday Morning Worship: 11 a.m. (10 a.m. summer)
MUSIC AT WAVERLY
The primary goal of the music program at Waverly is to explore our
relationships to God, our spiritual selves, and our Waverly community
through music. Just
as diversity is important to our mission as a church, we seek to learn and share
a diverse repertoire of music so that all have the chance to hear something that
speaks directly to them. From traditional hymns to gospel, classical to
rock, Christian contemporary to blue grass, our music embraces not only our own
representative cultures, but those which influence us, challenge us, and shape
us.
All Waverly choirs and musical groups are composed
solely of volunteers. There is such a wealth of talent at Waverly
that another goal of the music program is participation. With
today’s busy schedules, not everyone can commit to a typical
choir rehearsal schedule so we also try to get as much individual and
small group participation as schedules permit. All of the individual
music programs focus on building the Waverly community through fellowship
and fun, as well as creating incredible music together. Those
interested in participating can join in at any time. There is something
for everyone in Waverly’s
music programs!

SPECIAL SERVICES
In addition to regular Sunday morning worship, Waverly has established
a rich tradition of special services which stimulate, comfort, challenge
and revitalize the spirit.
* Homecoming Sunday is held in the fall to celebrate a return from
summer travels and to gather the church family together to share the
rich blessings of home.
* Mission Awareness is highlighted on the last Sunday of September
with a guest speaker who is active in local or global mission. The
service is followed by a Festival of Booths which gives all ages a
chance to do hands-on mission.
* Our series of Holy Week Services
enables participants to journey from Jerusalem to Gethsemane to the
open tomb in a unique and meaningful way. Worship includes a special
Palm Sunday service; a Holy Thursday Communion & Seder around
tables in the social hall; a dramatic tenebrae -style evening worship
on Good Friday, and a joyous Easter Festival service.
* Music Celebration Sunday is a toe-tapping service which praises
God through a variety of songs, styles, and instruments, ranging from
classical to cajun to contemporary Christian.
* The four Sunday services of Advent leading to Christmas include
a tree decorated during worship with prayers for peace and lighting
of the Advent wreath. The Christmas Eve Service is geared to all ages,
highlighting the simple beauty of the nativity story by means of a
Christmas pageant and the singing of favorite carols.
